Holt Dramatic Society will be performing an outdoor production of ‘Outside Edge’; a very funny play by Richard Harris.

For the first time ever, the aptly named Glove Factory Studios in Holt will provide the setting, covered seating will be provided and a pre-theatre supper at the Glove Factory cafe may be booked in advance.

The play is a comedy. Set in a cricket Pavilion, Outside Edge deals with an eventful Saturday afternoon in the lives of five men and four women.

Roger is having trouble getting a team together for the afternoon’s fixture against the British Railways Maintenance Division Yeading East, but this proves to be the least of anyone’s worries. Bob is having marriage trouble as he is still doing odd jobs for his ex-wife behind his current wife Ginnie’s back. Kevin is trying to fight off his over-affectionate wife Maggie while at the same time nursing his injured spinning finger and Alex’s new girlfriend ends up shutting herself in the toilets having hysterics. Even Roger’s seemingly perfect marriage to Miriam hits the skids when she discovers he was playing away from home in more ways than one on a trip to Dorking last year.

Just when it seems things can’t get any worse for them, it starts to rain…

Our director for this production is Kate Palmer, who has directed and performed in many successful plays in the past, and our producer is John Fletcher, who also appears in the production.

Thursday 7th July

Admission is FREE

Following the vote to Leave the EU we’re all left wondering how things are likely to unfold? Whilst the political and economic implications remain uncertain we will all be thinking about the potential impact on our businesses.

We invite you to join us in The Field Kitchen this Thursday 7th July at 5pm for open and supportive discussion on what the Brexit vote might mean for your business and what can be done to mitigate risks and make the most of opportunities.

We’ve invited Rob Perks, Chief Exec of Inspire to join us for this conversation. Fresh from hosting the Inspire breakfast last Friday with Kevin Butler, Ex Head of Audit and Regional Director at the Bank of England and now Economic Adviser to Milsted Langdon, he’ll be able to provide valuable insight gained from being touch with hundreds of businesses throughout Wiltshire, and although ‘it’s too soon to tell’ what the full impact of the referendum result will be for any of us, the more information we can gather, the better able we will be to come up with a plan for the future – whatever it might hold.

Simon Clegg HBN Breakfast

HBN Breakfast: 20 and 8 | Ups and Downs for Start-ups and SMEs with Simon Clegg / Event expired

Friday 6th May
8am to 9am

Admission is FREE

Business lawyer, company director and investor (and Glove Factory Studios member) Simon Clegg has over the past 20 years advised, and worked as an executive at a range of media, technology and brand communications businesses including start-ups through to SMEs in particular. Embarrassingly (he admits) in that 20 year period he’s seemingly only learned 8 things – mostly because people always seem to do the same things, or make the same mistakes.
Key factors like ‘write it down’, equity or control, IP or not to IP, friends and family issues, come up time and time again.

Join us on Friday 6th May at Glove Factory Studios for an open session “20 and 8: aka, the things I wish I hadn’t had to learn the hard way – lessons from, and for, early stage businesses and SMEs”.

Simon’s session expands on these 8 lessons with a (not entirely) hypothetical company, Guava Marketing and its erstwhile owner managers.

Simon’s lawyering focuses on commercial business, how corporate and ‘IP’ and brands work and helping businesses be ready for investment. Simon’s work has included Enid Blyton’s Noddy and FIFA World Cup football media rights, through to TV and film production and financing, buying and selling businesses, publishing, lots of technology, fashion and retail.  Simon is a highly experienced company director and holds an MBA from London Business School.
