mostly media’s Minnows’ manager

Leigh Robinson, Commercial Manager at studio members Mostly Media, also doubles up as Manager of Taunton Town FC.

Taunton Town FC recently qualified for the FA Cup first round, becoming the lowest ranked team in the country who were still in the FA Cup.

Taunton played Barrow from Cumbria in the first round who ply their trade three leagues higher than Taunton in the National League (or what used to be called The Conference). The first game ended as a 2-2 draw at Taunton last month in front of a sell out 2300 crowd plus the TV cameras.

For the replay Taunton travelled to Barrow on the 15th November, a mere 7 hour drive, and unfortunately lost 2-1 in another heroic display against the odds. Despite the disappointment of defeat it is a magnificent achievement to have got that far in the competition and winning the club approx. £60k in the process in prize money and revenue.

Leigh said “The entire FA cup run was a magnificent experience all round. Being Exeter based, I walked through my front door at 6am after the Barrow game but to be honest it was well worth it. We travelled up the day before, stayed in a hotel and trained at Wigan’s training ground on the morning of the game which is something we never normally get to do and almost enabled us to live the lives of professional players for the day. Taunton haven’t been in the FA Cup first round for 35 years so hopefully we can build on this success and not make it such a long wait until the club achieves this again”.
