Seeing through a different lens: Designing an online world that works for all
Rooster Talks are back with Lucy Collins from Web Usability sharing ideas on how to design a better online world that works for everyone.
Join us for an interactive session, brought to you by Lucy Collins, Director of Web Usability and Co-Founder of CollectivAlly, for anyone who designs, builds, manages, or makes decisions about a digital product or service: designers, developers, product managers, founders, marketers, anyone who’s ever released something online and assumed (or hoped!) it worked.
Every digital service is designed with someone in mind. This may be a mythical average user, a small customer group that is particularly vocal, or your mum. Yet, there is often a group that gets left out and this results in lost customers, increased costs, and a loss of trust that will be damaging the long-term health of your digital experiences.
In one hour, you will explore how to create online experiences that consider the voices that often go unheard: those of disabled and neurodivergent people.
Working in groups, you’ll predict where a real online task breaks down for someone whose needs differ from your own, then test it live and see what actually happens. You’ll leave with a practical way to spot who’s being left out of your own digital decisions and clear first steps to take in creating an equitable online world.
The live testing will be powered by CollectivAlly, an inclusive research platform launching this September that brings lived-experience insight into the design process early, rather than after launch.
Arrive from 8:50am to welcome you with tea/coffees and breakfast pastries prepared by our onsite cafe, Wild Herb at The Field Kitchen.
Then take your seat for Lucy’s presentation to begin at 9am.
We look forward to seeing you.
NB: Glove Factory Studios members are invited to stay at the end of the talk to register for a FREE one hour digital accessibility health check for your website. You will then be invited to book a FREE 1 hour session with Lucy, to take place at the Web Usability offices in Studio 1, during which she can conduct an initial health check on your website and hopefully provide some invaluable insights on how your current design could inadvertently be putting up barriers to some of your customers.
If you are unable to stay at the end of the talk, please do contact Lucy via email (with a note of your website address and studio location) to request to book in for a 1 hour digital health check: lucy@webusability.co.uk
