We welcome Polly Nicholson to talk about her book The Tulip Garden, before enjoying a light supper club at Wild Herb at The Field Kitchen.

In celebration of Phaidon’s recent publication of Polly Nicholson’s book, The Tulip Garden, we’re delighted to welcome Polly Nicholson to host a Vespertine Talk in the Club Room – followed by a deliciously light two-course supper in the canopy beside the fire pits at Wild Herb at The Field Kitchen.

You will be greeted with a complementary drink and offered delectable nibbles before being asked to make yourself comfortable in the Club Room, to settle in and enjoy a evening with Polly Nicholson who will be sharing her passion for these magnificent bulbs.

‘Tulips are one of the world’s most popular flowers, with over 2,500 varieties produced in Holland each year. Combining the flower’s rich cultural history with expert tips and growing advice, Polly Nicholson’s book provides a comprehensive introduction to more than 70 varieties, including cultivating species tulips, historic Dutch and English Florists’ tulips, as well as the popular annual tulips that we often see in our gardens and parks. Bringing to life varieties that date back to the 16th century, Nicholson demonstrates how these treasured bulbs and more modern varieties of this enchanting flower can be grown today.

Specialist flower grower and tulip expert Polly Nicholson is the owner of Bayntun Flowers in Wiltshire – growers of organic flowers cultivated in walled gardens and a one-acre field at the foot of the Marlborough Downs in Wiltshire.

Join us and journey to Blacklands, Nicholson’s beautiful, six-acre English country garden, and discover a unique collection of rare and covetable tulips — the largest private collection of historic varieties in the United Kingdom.’

Polly Nicholson holds the National Collection of Tulipa (Historic) with Plant Heritage (comprising over 75 cultivars dating back to the 16th century), and has featured on BBC Gardener’s World, Radio 4, in Gardens Illustrated, Country Life, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, The World of Interiors, and House & Garden.

The book, The Tulip Garden: Growing and Collecting Species, Rare and Annual Varieties from specialist flower grower and tulip expert, Polly Nicholson, is published by Phaidon. There will be copies of the book available to purchase at the event.
