About Tuckey Design Studio
Founded by Jonathan Tuckey in 1999, Tuckey Design Studio explores the cultural, social and emotional connections formed with buildings over time. With bases in
London, UK and Andermatt, Switzerland, the studio transforms structures through adaptive reuse of existing buildings or sustainable new construction, creating places that serve their occupants for generations.
The team of 25 produces buildings that are rooted in their environment, layering modern interventions while preserving historic fabric to define new spaces for living, working, learning, and enjoying. Its wholly sensitive, tactile approach to architecture has won the studio international recognition.
Notable recent projects include: Horris Hill Theatre, an RIBA Award winning newbuild school theatre constructed from CLT; the AJ Retrofit Award-winning church-to-home conversion Old Chapel in Devon, and the creation of the Trevarefabrikken hotel and cultural venue from an abandoned cod liver oil factory in Lofoten, Norway.
Rammed Earth House is part of an ongoing material exploration into rammed-earth architecture for the studio, which also includes a consultation room and surgery hall at Eswatini Eye Hospital, and a rammed-earth playscape in Stoke-on-Trent for the British Ceramics Biennial 2025.
