James Runcie joins us to talk about his expansive career and mysterious inspirations.

Sam’s Kitchen welcome you with drinks and a deliciously fresh 3 course supper.

Nic Bottomley from Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights will introduce James and will be selling his books on the night.

James Runcie is an award-winning film-maker, author of 7 novels, theatre director, visiting Professor at Bath Spa University, and the son of a former Archbishop of Canterbury. James is a fascinating man with many a story to regale, and we are delighted to have him host our Autumn Supper Club.

Aside from writing Vol. 5 of The Grantchester Mysteries, James is also writing a play about Dr Johnson for Oran Mor in Glasgow, and will  be running a creative writing course at Dartington in August 2015.

James directs plays; dramatised readings; and high-end documentaries on cultural subjects. He’s been working at the Southbank Centre where he’s been responsible for productions such as tributes to Seamus Heaney and Maya Angelou, and a rehearsed reading of all of Shakespeare’s Sonnets. His most well-known documentaries are J.K.Rowling: A Year in the Life; and My Father, a profile of Lord Runcie, the 102nd Archbishop of Canterbury. James chairs high-profile literary events where he has interviewed people such as Marilynne Robinson, Richard Ford, Hilary Mantel and J.K.Rowling.

To find out more about the man behind the mysteries, please join us for another wonderful evening with an extraordinary group of diners – people who have great ideas, who do business differently and are writing their own big or small success stories – coming together over discussion with delicious fresh food and drinks.

We hope you can come and we look forward to spending an enjoyable evening together.
