Join us for an exclusive evening with Mulvany & Rogers, talking about their most recent project, Leighton House – followed by a viewing of the piece in their Brook Lane studio before it appears on display at Leighton House Museum to mark the 100th anniversary since the house opened as a museum.
Mulvany and Rogers make one-twelfth scale bespoke minature houses and this most recent work arose from the personal interest of their client Sheikh Ahmed Bin Khalid Al Thani, a longtime patron and friend, as he recognises Frederic Leighton’s appreciative vision of Arab cultural heritage.
In July 2026, Leighton House marks 100 years since it opened as a public museum in Kensington. As part of their celebratory anniversary programme, the museum will host, for one week only – from 15th to 20th July, this extraordinary one-twelfth scale miniature of the house and its richly decorated interiors.
Measuring 2.5 metres wide when fully opened and over a metre high, the miniature meticulously recreates the Victorian artist-studio home’s most iconic spaces—from the Silk Room to the Narcissus Hall and the Arab Hall, complete with its golden dome, ceramic tiles, and water feature. Employing a variety of materials (wood, stone, glass) to painstakingly recreate the rich craftmanship found in the original interiors. With subtle internal lighting, the finished miniature evokes a similar sense of wonder to that of the visitor to the full-scale museum.
The former home and studio of Victorian artist and President of the Royal Academy Frederic, Lord Leighton (1830 – 1896), became a public museum in 1926. Safeguarded after Leighton’s death by his neighbour and biographer, Emilie Barrington, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea completed its acquisition in July 1926, opening it as a public museum. It served a variety of additional purposes throughout the 20th century – from a children’s library to a theatre museum – before careful restoration of its famed interiors began in the 1980s.
We are thrilled to be able to invite you to such an exclusive viewing of this work in close proximity, and to meet the makers and hear their story about its creation.
We hope you can join us.
Welcome drinks and delicious nibbles will be served from 6:30pm and the presentation will begin at 7pm.
